Big PSU Wrestling Weekend

Penn State came off several bad losses to ranked opponents the past few weeks(#1 Minnesota, #11 Illinios and #17 Wisconsin). This weekend was Penn State's turn to take a few away from others. Last Friday night, PSU over matched #12 Northwestern 25-8. Then this past Sunday, PSU stunned #6 Iowa 24-13 at Rec Hall with several key wins over a higher ranked opponent.


Heller posted one of the upsets on the night when he pinned #6 Alex Tsirtsis of Iowa.

Rough weekend for Lion Wrestlers

It was a rough weekend for the PSU wrestling team. They finished 0-2 after matches with both Wisconsin and Minnesota on the road.

Galloway is Transferring

Nathan Galloway has been given permission by PSU to transfer to another institution. Nathan is currently in his senior year so I am not sure what a transfer would really do for him at this point in time. I guess if he did it right away, he could make the roster at another school. I am unsure of the transfer rules for wrestling if a year of "sit out" time is needed.

It sounds bad to say, but I sort of wish he requested the transfer a few years ago...

Virginia Duals Update

Penn State wrestling, ranked #10 nationally, was ranked the #1 seed in this weekends Virginia Duals. PSU beat North Dakota State 39-3 and then won over Bloomsburg 22-9 in the quarterfinals. Rider is the next school up for PSU in the semifinals which starts today at 2:00 PM.

PSU Beats Cornell on the Mat

The #10 Penn State wrestling team had a big day on Sunday verse wrestling power Cornell (#13). Cornell always fields a very competitive team and proved so this weekend keeping the match close as expected. The lions prevailed however in the end.

Mark McKnight won over the #2 ranked wrestler in his weight class as did Phil Davis.

The #8 Nittany Lions took on a 2-2 Lock Haven team last night. A match that should have not even been close, however with Davis (197) and Anspach (HWT) out for the night, things proved to be interesting. Penn State still won the match and now posts a 5-1 record.
