And More MD Verbals

Just as soon as I write the last article, another Maryland native selects PSU for the next 4 years to play football. Brandon Felder is a very quick WR and chose PSU over Syracuse, Maryland and Boston College last evening. Saying Felder is fast is not giving him enough credit. His times are very close to elite even with being 6' 3".

Tune Up the Maryland Bus

Penn State recruited heavy in Maryland 2 years ago when they landed a top 5 recruiting class. They are heading back south again this year with half the class (5 of 10) so far coming from Maryland.

This past weekend, Stephon Morris ended his recruiting with a verbal commitment to PSU. He becomes the 5th defensive back (3 CB's and 2 Safeties) in the class. Morris will not stay un-rated for long as he will have people reviewing him shortly I am sure. He had plenty of offers choosing PSU over Illinios, Louisville and Rutgers.

Today Sean Stanley told Coach Johnson he would like to attend Penn State. This verbal sort of came out of nowhere as Stanley was not anticipated to commit anywhere at this time. Sean is a 4 star DE according to both scout and rivals.com. A very good get for Penn State especially considering the depth at the defensive line right now.

Offensive Line Recruing Looking Good

Right after Eric Shrive shocked the world, Penn State has pulled in another verbal committment on the offensive line; this time from the guard position.

Frank Figueroa, Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria (VA), committed to Penn State. The school sent video of Frank to Penn State in January and he received a scholarship offer while at the junior day last weekend. Frank has flown under the radar until recently with PSU being his only offer at the the time. Just today, William & Mary offered as well as North Carolina. Last week, Syracuse, Michigan State, Virginia and Temple were all in to visit him.

At 6' 4", 282 pounds, he has the frame to play guard at the next level.

HOLY COW!!!

Eric Shrive, OT from West Scranton (PA), successfully fooled everyone in the recruiting scene that is anyone including many fans that have followed his recruitment. Today, Shrive, the 5* #3 ranked OT in the nation, called Joe Paterno to tell him he wanted to be a Nittany Lion. Everyone thought he was a definite to Notre Dame with a slight chance of Illinois, but he decided to stay in State. He was Notre Dame fan growing up, but he said the relationships he built with the Penn State staff was too much for anyone else to overcome.

This is probably the best news PSU football recruiting could have received in a while: keeping the top OT in state during a year of major need.

Huge Weekend

This past weekend the Nike camp visited Happy Valley. With it, many prized recruits were on campus as well. It was projected to have the biggest turnout of any Nike camp on the tour. Not only was it a great turnout, but a great weekend for PSU football.

It doesn't get any better than when a Ohio State commit changes his mind to come play for the Nittany Lions. Cornerback, Darrell Givens did just that to give Penn State their first top 100 commit on the year.

That was not it... Cornerback Stephen Obeng-Agyapong also committed to Penn State as well as Derrick Thomas. That gives PSU 3 cornerbacks in as many days. Talk about recruiting need as there is a chance A.J. Wallace would jump if he has a season like he is able to have. Slight chance, but nonetheless, a chance. With both Davis and Sargeant being seniors this year, there is a lot of room on the roster for that position.

National Champions

The men's volleyball team defeated Ohio State and then Pepperdine this weekend to grab the national championship. This is PSU's second volleyball championship all time.

The women's team won the national championship last fall which makes this only the second time a school has won both in the same year (Stanford, 1996/7).
