Charges Announced

The players and the charges against them are as follows:

Anthony Scirrotto
Burglary (felony), Criminal Trespass (felony), Criminal Solicitation, Simple Assault, Harrasment

Chris Baker
Burglary (felony), Criminal Trespass (felony), Criminal Mischief, Simple Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Harrasment

Justin King
Jerome Hayes
Lydell Sargeant
Tyrell Sales
Criminal Trespass (felony), Disorderly Conduct, Harrasment

My guess is Baker and Scirrotto may be booted from the team if they are found guilty. The other 4 will most likely sit in the Paterno dog house for a while, but I would not expect them to miss any extended playing time if any at all. Remember these are still allegations, so things could change drastically still during the hearings/trial.

McDonald Gone

James McDonald was a redshirt sophomore this year for the PSU football team, however he has been dismissed from football for violation of team rules. James was a 3 star WR out of high school and many felt he had to tools to be very good at PSU. I guess we never really had a chance to find out.

Ditto May Have to Redshirt

Jon Ditto enrolled early at PSU hoping to make an immediate impact. Earlier this spring, Jon injured his shoulder and this weekend the time scheduled was discussed. It looks like he will be out at least 6 months. It is highly likely that Jon will have to take a redshirt this season.

PSU Hoops Pick-up Verbal

Stanley Pringle verbally agreed to play for the PSU Men's Basketball team over the weekend during a visit. Stanley originally signed with Marshall in the Fall, however a coaching change gave him enough reason to look around. It is currently in the late signing period, so PSU should receive his signed letter any time. Stanley played last season at Pasco-Hernando Community College. He will have 2 years left of eligibility when he arrives at Happy Valley.

1st Verbal

As expected, PSU received their first verbal committment over the weekend during the coaches clinic. Offensive lineman, Matt Stankiewitch (6' 4", 288 lbs.), verballed on his trip to Happy Valley. Matt is guard on his Blue Mountain High School football team. He chose Penn State over Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

Penn State coaches told Matt that he will be a center at the next level.

First Verbal?

BlueWhiteIllustrated is saying PSU may have its first verbal commitment after this past weekend by Matt Stankiewitch. Nothing has been posted officially yet. Matt currently holds offers from Connecticut, Penn State, Rutgers and West Virginia. He is currently unranked by scout.com at the Offensive tackle position.

Jordan to PSU?

Michael Jordan's son, Jeff Jordan, is good friends with with current PSU commitment Joe Suhey. Joe accepted a football scholarship from Penn State this past recruiting year and now PSU is apparently after Jeff for basketball. Jeff is a 3 star player on both scout.com and rivals.com.

After further research, it appears David Jones of the Harrisburg Patriot News has asked Ed directly about the recruitment of Jeff. Ed currently says they are not recruiting Michael Jordan's son.

No More Posluszny

The year after Paul Posluszny leaves to graduation, PSU had the chance to bring in another, his younger brother, David. David has been a hard lean toward Notre Dame for a while now and this weekend, went from lean to commit. It is official. David Posluszny has verbally committed to Notre Dame. He did not have an offer from Penn State as PSU has 6 other offers out already for linebackers.

Practice Cancelled

Yesterday's practice (the last scheduled practice before the Easter Holiday) was canceled by Joe Paterno. Joe's reasoning is direct and too the point, but something that should worry every PSU fan.

"certain people might not eventually be with the team, so practicing with them would be pointless."
I have a bad feeling about this. Names are floating around as to who may be involved and I will tell you two of them would be very hurtful to the team. Hopefully they are just that, rumors, but we will have to wait and see.

Playoffs in 2010?

According to Terry Bowden, you will see at least a 4 team payoff in major college football by 2009 (Fox has BCS rights through 2009).

Logan-El - DONE

Antonio Logan-El was a highly ranked (5 star) offensive lineman coming out of Maryland to Penn State two years ago. Antonio was expected to be a star at the next level, but it appears he does not have the dedication in him to be that person. Logan-El officially has left the PSU football team. He mentions he may play for another team, however after seeing how he struggled at PSU, I doubt any elite program will take his services. Look for him in DII or even DIII at best (my guess).

Trouble in Happy Valley

It appears there was a skirmish in Happy Valley over the weekend involving football players. Just a heads up, as this could end up nothing, or another big disappointment in players being suspended to start the season.

Sweat's Top 3?

Andrew Sweat had Penn State in his top 5 but mentioned Ohio State and Notre Dame as his leaders not too long ago. Sweat got a personal invitation to tour PSU on Friday with coach Tom Bradley. Bradley showed Sweat around personally. Tom and Andrew have a good connection as Tom has been visiting Andrew at High School since Andrew was a freshman. After the visit, Sweat listed his top schools and mentioned he will be cutting the list to two or three in the next few weeks. Currently he said that list would be Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. Let's hope Bradley keeps the communication alive...
