Vanderline to CMU?

Penn State LB Coach, Ron Vanderlinden, has been rumored to be a canidate for the Central Michigan head coaching position. Coach Vanderlinden has been an instrumental addition to the staff and PSU's return to Linebacker U. This would certainly be very disappointing news for Nittany Nation. News we knew we would have to deal with one day.

Green Taking Visits

Even though Broderick Green says he is more committed to USC than ever, he is still planning on taking his visits to Happy Valley and Columbus. He is down to 3 schools and USC is still the clear leader. Green says he would have to be blown away on the visit more so than USC before he would even consider changing his mind.

And Then There Were 3

Three members of the PSU football team have been sent home now. First there was Ed Johnson and Spencer Ridenhour for an undisclosed reason, and now Austin Scott. Joe made a comment on Austin saying it was a "Family Matter". The team does not currently have a curfew and Paterno told them what he expects. He also told them he is not going to baby sit and if they get in trouble, they will have to deal with the consequences. I guess 3 of them did not believe him.

Poti to Enroll

Several weeks ago, we discovered that Ako Poti accepted a scholarship to be the first JUCO player in many moons for the Nittany Lions. Poti is expected to play either offensive guard or tackle and is expected by the staff to step in right away. Poti is arriving in Happy Valley on Jan. 14. This will allow him to prepare for spring practice and the B&W game.

Broderick Green Confirms Commitment

Broderick Green has always said he was still committed to USC, however a visit to USC this past weekend convinced him to say he is thinking about not taking any more visits. Penn State fans have thought for a good while they may have a chance with Green, however the chance seems to be fading fast.

Still has PSU Leading?

According to a quote on delawareonline.com, Devon Still has the lion in the lead over Ohio State. The last quote from either scout.com or rivals.com has Penn State and Ohio State as co-leaders. Still is waiting until January to make a decision as Joe Paterno can make an in house visit at that time. As long as he holds out and waits that long, I think it is looking good for PSU fans.

The article also mentions Penn State commit Andrew Szczerba with several quotes.

At a Loss

The men's basketball team somehow managed to lose this weekend to Southeastern Louisiana 69-66. It was on a last second buzzer shot, however with the expectations coming into this year, it is very disappointing it was even close. The loss to Stoney Brook earlier this year should have been a pretty good sign but it was early enough that people wrote it off as a young team starting the season. This far into the early season, a loss like this should not happen. I am now with the many others that are dreading the start of the Big 10 season.

The #8 Nittany Lions took on a 2-2 Lock Haven team last night. A match that should have not even been close, however with Davis (197) and Anspach (HWT) out for the night, things proved to be interesting. Penn State still won the match and now posts a 5-1 record.

Shrine Recruiting Update

Desmond Roberts, 3 star center by scout.com, is a NC State commit, however has setup visits with other schools. One of those schools is Penn State with the visit coming January 19th. He is also visiting Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State. NC State is his first stop in early January so I am sure it is very possible that he can re-confirm his commitment after that visit and cancel the others. What prompted the visit has been the release of the current NC State coach to the Boston College head coach. Desmond says that he is still unsure how the BC coach plans to use him at NC State and wants to make sure he has other options if he does not like what he hears when he receives that answer.

Tydreke Powell had an interview yesterday as well saying that North Carolina is his current leader. He feels that he has become close with the other NC commits this week during practice.

NC Commits in Ears of Other Shriners

The North Carolina vs South Carolina Shrine game is this weekend and practice has been going all week. This game contains two PSU commits, Kevion Latham and Quinn Barham, as well as PSU prospect Tydreke Powell. Quinn and Kevion are both in other players ears about joining the lions. In an article posted today on scout.com, Quinn says he is working on both Powell and Desmond Roberts. One quote from Quinn really stands out and I think many will agree. Quinn says, "Tydreke, he's really feeling Penn State now. I feel good how we stand with them, and I think we've got Tydreke already."

Quite the comment.

And Yet Another Looker

Desmond Roberts is a 3 star, 6' 5", 260 pound center and ranked #10 nationally at that position by scout.com. The only problem for PSU fans is that he is committed to NC State. Or is he? Since the firing of the coaching staff at NC State, Desmond has started to open is recruitment. He plans on visiting Penn State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech, and NC State. He has been in contact with the old BC coach (heading to NC State) but still plans on taking the visits. Desmond does not currently hold a PSU scholarship and to be honest, I don't know if there are any more left with all the other prospects, but I know that if PSU wants him, they will find a way.
