Wiz Update

Stefen Wisniewski visited PSU for Michigan and then the following week for the Illinios game. He loved his visit, however did not commit. He was to visit Boston College this past weekend and my then be ready to make his decision. It is down to PSU and BC. His father, Leo, said he may be ready to announce in the next few days.

Langley Update

Donald Langley, the 3 star DT from Maryland, was up to visit Happy Valley this past weekend for the game. Langley said it was an "awesome time" and has stated he has a finalist grouping of 4 schools: PSU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. He is not noting a leader but will make his decision November 6th at noon. Donald did say his parents want him to attend PSU while his coaches want him to attend Tennessee.

Wrestling Gets More Commits

Penn State wrestling hauled in four big time recruits this weekend.

The first is a two time PIAA state champ at AAA. Nazareth senior Tim Darling, 152 pounder, has orally committed to the lions. Tim chose Penn State over preseason #1 Minnesota, Lehigh and Virginia Tech.

Other commits include Jared Platt of Blair Academy (NJ), Cameron Wade of St. Peter Channel (OH) and Frank Molinaro of Southern (NJ).

All four of these wrestlers are ranked #2 nationally at their weightclass by Amateur Wrestling News.

McCoy Speaks

LeSean McCoy spoke in his interview from Bob Lichtenfels of scout.com talking more about how he is doing and where he is with recruiting. McCoy is planning on making at least 3 official visits with the running being Miami, Pitt, Penn State and Florida. McCoy did admit that is is looking for the school that best fits him now instead of the most recognized school in the nation. He did actually say that PSU was close to home and that may be the best thing for him. This is going to be down to the wire I have a feeling.

Donald Langley Update

Donald Langley, 3 star DT by scout.com, visited Oklahoma last week and here are some things he had to say. First, he enjoyed his visit and came away more impressed than he thought he would. However, it was weird how a Sooner interview quickly turned into a PSU discussion. I would say that Langley is Penn State's to lose. Langley will be visiting Happy Valley this weekend for his official and when asked he mentioned it was his last visit and that he will be holding a press conference on November 4th to announce his school. Right now he is down to Oklahoma, Tennessee, PSU and Texas A&M. Donald did mention that his parents want him to go to PSU so he is close to home. Donald is from Germantown, MD which is a 3 hour drive from State College. He has only been to PSU for camps so this weekend is big for PSU's recruitment of Langley. He mentioned that "all these other schools have so much to offer that I just hope Penn State has the same thing." See what I mean in PSU's to lose...

Tidbits from Saturday

  • The biggest question everyone probably has (or at least should) is the QB situation. I have heard both things from "Dont expect to see Morelli" to "expect to see both Morelli and Clark be ready". It is too big of a question to speculate, so just wait until the press conference tomorrow and I am sure we will have more answers. The good news is at least both parties are saying that Clark will be ready at a minimum.

  • Phil Taylor made his college debut for the Michigan game. It was expected that big Phil would redshirt, however, McEowen's injury appears to be a high ankle sprain leaving him less than 100%.

  • Due to the above scenerio, expect PSU to submit for a medical redshirt for Tom McEowen.

  • Derrick Morgan has a visit he called "Wild". He is scheduled to visit BC this weekend as his final official visit and announce a leader in November. Derrick is graduating early and enrolling in the Spring at the school of his choice.

  • Kevion Latham is still planning on taking visits but is listing himself as a strong commit.

  • The surprise recruit, Sturdivant was still on campus today. Expect more to follow on his visit.

  • Weslye Saunders did not make the trip as expected, but now there is another story starting to surface than what was reported last week (no SAT scores). Weslye reported to Mike Farrell of rivals.com that PSU has not made contact in some time and because of that, they have fallen down the list. Expect a story later this week.

  • Wiz (Stefen Wisniewski) was at the game (as expected) for an unofficial visit and will visit again this week for his official visit.

  • Purdue Game Time Announced

The Penn State vs. Purdue game will be on ABC for a noon kickoff.

    First Surprise Visitor

Trinton Sturdivant, 4 star OL and ranked #21 at the position, is listed as a soft verbal to Georgia, however that is not stopping him from visiting Happy Valley this weekend. Trinton said that he is hearing from Florida, PSU and Notre Dame, however he is not hearing from Georgia. He has even listed a new interested list containing Florida, Georgia, Penn State, Notre Dame and Auburn. He has already visited Florida and Notre Dame. This truly is a surprise as he was not even listed as having a PSU scholarship at this time. The one thing PSU can never have enough of are big time lineman prospects.

    Scout.com: OL Sturdivant Considers PSU

    Don't Expect to See Saunders

Wesley Saunders will not attend the Michigan vs. PSU game this weekend as planned. The reason being he has yet to receive his SAT test scores. The NCAA requires test scores prior to an official visit, so the visit will have to be at a later time.

Paternoville Population of 0 No More

The Centre Daily Times is reporting that there were almost 100 tents setup by 6 AM this morning. Last year there were 120 tents for the Ohio State game and they are at a fast pace to beat that number.

    Game Updates

A couple of things for this weekends game with Michigan...

    • First and foremost, Jimmy Shaw will be ready to play this saturday. It has not said that he will start, but Paterno has said he will be ready to play for Michigan. That is awesome news as long as he is really 100% ready. That gives us 5 ends and 5 tackles to rotate on Saturday to keep people fresh.

      Ends:

Tim Shaw, Jim Shaw, Josh Gaines, Mo Evans, Jared Odrick

      Tackles:

Jay Alford, Chris Baker, Ed Johnson, Tom McEowen, Steve Roach

    • A close second as far as good news is that Andrew Quarless will start at tight end. We got to see just a glimpse of what he can do last week at Minnesota. He is a manchild at 6'5" 250lbs with 4.6 speed.

    • A list of freshman that will redshirt has been made. Brackett (QB), Devlin (QB), Bani Gbadyu (SF/LB), Cedric Jefferies (DB), Navorro Bowman (LB), Travis McBride (DB), Aaron Maybin (DE), Doug Klopacz (OL), Abe Koroma (DT), Logan-El (OL), and Ollie Ogbu (DL).

    Carr on Manningham

As expected, Lloyd Carr is not saying anything about Mario Manningham. In a press conference yesterday, Carr said, "I don't have any comment on Mario. I just don't have anything to tell you."

ESPN is reporting that Manningham is undergoing arthroscopic surgery this morning for a partially torn meniscus in his knee. He may also have a partial medial collateral tear in his knee. ESPN is reporting from news in the Detroit News.

Manningham Out for PSU Game? Year?

It is being reported one of Michigan's top (if not the top) receivers has suffered a slight ACL tear. Right now these are just rumors and really have no credit, however many people are posting they heard from many different sources. I would watch the situation closely at best.

Please tell me this is not true. - www.scout.com

    Zordich to Attend Michigan Game

Former lion, Michael Zordich Sr., will be visiting Happy Valley for the Michigan vs PSU game October 14th. However the reason is he will be coming with his son, Michael Zordich Jr. Jr is a highly ranked junior linebacker prospect out of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney in Ohio. It is expected that Michael will be one of the top prospects in the country for his position. He attended the Penn State football camp this summer and has Penn State on his list of favorites with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan and others.

    Paternoville, Population of Zero

Preparing for the Michigan game a little early, Paternoville saw people already setting up camp this week. However, they were told to leave and when refusing to do so had police threaten with arrest. I don't see this as a good thing to piss off students that are anxious to support their team. Hopefully this is not taken too negatively by the students and they still setup next week. The unknown official told them they would not be allowed to setup tent until Thursday evening: 48 hours prior to kickoff.

    Injury Update

    • Kevin Kelly will likely continue to kick field goals only and let the kickoff duties to another person. Kevin is recovering from a stress fracture to the iliac crest.

    • Jim Shaw is still listed as questionable but it is appearing more likely that he will not be ready.

    • Terrell Golden has continued practicing this week after seeing action at the end of the game last week.

    • Levi Brown will miss the game again this week, but appears that he will play against Michigan. Levi sat out last week as well and it was reported that he could have played if he was needed. The same phrase was used for this week however the staff feels it is not worth the chance. Look for him next week in Beaver Stadium.

    • Jerome Hayes may see some action this week however it is really up to him to say how he feels. It was stated before that Hayes will be ready for Michigan.

    • Robert Price is also questionable for the Minnesota game due to a shoulder injury. Cadogan will start in his place.

Mother Hali Makes it to a Game

Tamba Hali's mother, Mama Rachel, saw her some play football for the first time this weekend. In this game, Tamba had 3 tackles with 1.5 sacks. His mother was having a great time doing all the typical things a football fan does at a game. Mama Rachel is in America for a few weeks until she has to go back to her home country. Tamba is still pursueing getting her moved to the USA permanently.
