Myron Already Knows His Decision

Myron Rolle (scout.com's #1 rated recruit) is set to give his final decision tomorrow at 5:20 PM EST on ESPN News' Hot List, just like Derrick Williams last year. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this will have the same outcome. There is a lot of rumors he is going to Florida and many lions fans that watch recruiting are already down. Myron actually made a statement that he has his decision and has had it since Monday of this week. He ended w/ saying that he has his decison made and he is "happy about it". Happy Valley happy? I guess we will see tomorrow at 5:20.

Man Down - Again...

Rodney Kinlaw (who was listed as the 2nd team RB) injured his knee this week and will most likely miss the first 2 games. How will this effect the team? Well, we are very lucky to have Tony and Austin at that position however Kinlaw showed some very good hope at the end of last season when he saw more action. Hopefully it is not serious so he can give us some serious depth at RB for the Big 10 season.

More news. Recruiting:

If you are going to the game this weekend, look for Navorro Bowman, the 4 star LB (ranked 15th at the position) from Maryland. PSU is 1 of 2 schools (Virginia Tech) Navorro has scheduled an official visit at this time. Hopefully the defense plays the way everyone expects them to to impress this very talented Linebacker into wanting nothing more than to go to Linebacker-U. Show him on Saturday that he want to play in front of us PSU FANS....

Navorro Bowman

Another HIGHLY recruited person is going to be in town this weekend also. LeSean McCoy (5 star RB, ranked 2nd at the position) plays friday evening at State College High for Bishop McDevitt's season opener. If you are going up to state early this weekend, drop in to see this hopefully future PSU star RB.

WinFS Beta 1 Available

WinFS Beta 1 has been released today. WinFS is the new file structure that was to ship with Window Vista (Longhorn), however took more time than anticipated, so it was cut from the roster. WinFS will now be an addon much like you can download and install .NET.

I will probably not download and play w/ the new system yet until we actually have a server that runs WinFS, as there is no point in learning to code in it, if you don't have anything that will use it. There are much more interesting things to research/try than a new file system, IMO...

Google Talk Easter Egg

For all those people that say, "Google Talk is so plain", here is something that will stir things up a little. Right-click on the Google Talk System Tray icon and select "About...". Notice anything. I didn't at first until someone made me look again. There are VERY light numbers above the privacy policy link. You have to look very close. If you can see it, it will say "play 23 21 13 16 21 19 7 1 13 5". So, WTF does that mean? You will notice that all the numbers are less than 24 so what significance can that have? Well, someone figured it out. Seeing that there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, assign each letter a number (A=1, B=2, etc.). You will find that the code is "play wumpus game". Supposedly, you are to invite "wumpus.game@gmail.com" as a friend and once it is confirmed, open a text window and type "Play". The wumpus game is too start.

I tried all this, but I never received an acceptance from this gmail account so I could not play. There may be a limitation to the amount of people that can play at one time or something. Give it a few days maybe since this is probably circulating pretty fast right now.

Google Talk is Here

As promised, Google talk is alive and ready. You must have a Google gmail account to use it, however, gmail is no longer "invitation only" so anyone can register for an account. Initial reviews by online writers say that there is nothing new or fascinating about talk, however this is Google. There will be something new and completely unimaginative in the near future without a doubt. Give it a try. Download at the link below.

Google Chat?

This has been a rumor for some time now, but maybe this time it is a reality. Google purchased a company a little while ago that had a chat service so it only made sense to release one. It could be released as early as tomorrow from what this article states.

Double BAD News

This is starting to turn into a bad dream. First thing: Lavon Chisley will not be playing this year. He has become academically ineligible for the fall semester following this past summer session classes that he took. You have got to be kidding me. He was majoring in recreation, park and tourism management!!! How do you become ineligible for that??? Lavon obviously has little to no self motivation and definitely did not take the situation seriously. How can you get to this level and let schooling be the reason why you do not make it? Good thing we have Hali and Rice, but the 3 person punch would have been great, especially in the rough Big 10 schedule.

Second blow was that Mark Rubin's injury was a dislocated ankle which he had to undergo surgery on Monday. Rubin will red shirt this entire year. That leaves one wide receiver that has caught a pass in game situation (Terrell Golden). Fight hard to come back next year full bore Mark...

This is starting to suck bad...

FightOnState.com: DE Chisley to Miss Final Season

Rubin Injures Ankle, Out Indefinitely

Ok, after last week (Conner Suspended) we really did not need to start the week with this news. PSU's most experienced receiver is out for at least a month. That most likely means the entire non-conference schedule. Hopefully he will be back for the Big 10 opener...

SI.com - JoePa ready for 40th season

Sports Illustrated article on Paterno and the lions for this upcoming season. For the first time, I have read a legit article where the writers doesn't just say that PSU may win 6 games. They actually compared this years squad with the 2002 sqad. Another time in PSU history when State came off 2 losing seasons (2000-2001) to go 9-4. Hopefully this comparison turns out to be a good one. We need a great season this year and as fans, we deserve one.

So it Had to Go There - LB Connor Suspended

As I wrote yesterday, Dan Conner was caught making prank phone calls to the point that the police investigated. Conner has been suspended indefinitely (whatever that means). It is getting way too close to opening weekend for this crap...

Couple of Lions Articles

First of all, the good news. (well hopefully) Myron Rolle will announce the college he has chosen on September 1st. This is 2 days before the lions season opener w/ South Florida. Kind of unexpected in my eyes as he suposedly told Joe that he would not play for PSU if they had a losing season. Is that bad or good news that he is deciding early?

He has narrowed his choices down to Miami, Penn State, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, and Oklahoma. Myron is the #1 rated player by scout.com.

Scout.com: Scout™ Database

Now the bad news. Dan Conner, Jim Kanuch and Nolan McCready have been caught making prank phone calls and are subject to team punishment. Now how are you going to punish someone for making prank calls. Who has not done that? Hopefully they are not dumb enough to make a big deal over this.

More Broadband News - 20 Km DSL

I don't know if this is broadband news day or what, but Telstra finished their trial on DSL Extenders. This new DSL goes 20 Km from a central exchange as opposed to 3.5 Km for ADSL. Only downfall is that this will only do 1.5 Mbits/s. That is a H of a lot more than I get now...

There is hope... Broadband Through Power Lines

I heard this was in the works a good while back, but this is the first article that I have actually read on deployment of the idea. Think of all the power lines out there. Anyone could get broadband then, right? To quote Lee Corso, "Not so fast...".

Running service to a single home is too costly, he says, but service to clusters of perhaps 50 homes or more is feasible.

So maybe they will not go for the people that don't already have broadband and instead go for the urban areas of the nation.

PSU in Top 3 for Phillip Taylor

Phillip Taylor, a 4 star defensive tackle/offensive lineman, announces Penn State in his top 3 choices with Virginia Tech and Maryland as the other two. He had a teammate verbal to VT and lives in MD so it could be tough to land it, but would be nice to get a player of Phillip's caliber.

Anyone that has ever created a web page from scratch, without all the fancy applications will appreciate this site. You can hover over a color wheel and the page tells you what is a web safe, web smart or unsafe. Logan-El puts the Lions at the Top of His List

If you are not excited about PSU's 2006 recruiting yet, you should be now. Antonio Logan-El (5 star Offensive Lineman) came out of his PSU un-official visit putting the lions on top of his list with Maryland (who he is verbally committed to since the end of his Sophmore year). This would be a huge draw since he is good friends with Aaron Maybin (3 star Defensive End) who also has HIGH interest in PSU. Logal-El made the comment that they have both talked about going to the same school together. Who else is persuading the two to come to Happy Valley... Mr. Williams.... Derrick better be guaranteed a recruiting job when his football career is over...

Paterno Talks - E.Z. Smith is Returning...

Paterno talks at the Big 10 media summit. One thing that I noticed is that he mentioned E.Z. Smith (Sr. Center) will be returning to the squad, however he will be added to the bottom of the depth chart. If you don't remember, he was suspended from PSU for shooting arrows through his dorm room. It is good to know that a senior lineman is going to at least get a chance to prove himself...

Good and Bad News for Steelers Fans

The Steelers announced that they signed their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round draft picks today. However, that comes w/ some bad news. Ward did not make day 1 of training camp. This is not good. I have confidence that Randle El can step up to be #2, but Ward is definately needed at #1...

Koroma is Verbal No. 4

PSU received its 4th verbal this past weekend during their Junior Day (Weekend). Abe Doromo is a defensive lineman from Milton Hershey. Scout.com does not rank or rate him as he is a low key recruit, however PSU must have saw something of him at camp earlier.
