Firefox Downloads Top 75 million

The Firefox browser hit a nice milestone. 75 million downloads. Right at the time IE7 is introduced. I read some good things about IE7 already and am downloading it now, but Firefox is still my browser of choice as of right now. IE better be way more user friendly and less crash prone to even step back into the picture for me...

Alvarez to retire from football

Barry Alvarez, head coach of the Wisconsin football team announce today that he is going to be the full time Athletic Director instead of football coach starting in 2006. That is a shame. Barry has always been one of the good guys in college football.

Windows Vista & IE7 Beta 1 Available

IE's webblog revealed today that both Windows Vista Beta 1 (new OS) and IE7 Beta 1 were released to MSDN subscribers. I have gotten so used to Firefox that I don't even want to think about IE again. But I will have to try it. I will report back any new features that I find and like/dislike.

If anyone has some left over vacation time from work and 100 million dollars laying around, you can go on the trip of a lifetime. Since I don't have any more vacation time this year, I will have to hold off...

Optimus keyboard

I know, I know. Who the H writes a blog about a keyboard. Hey, I am running low on things to write about today, but after you look at this keyboard, you will know why. Check out the OLED keys. There is a whole section of keys that you can customize. Check them out with the Internet Explorer logo and the rest. Nice. I am sure it will be expensive though...

Build Your Own LCD Projector

Sounds simple enough. You can build a full projection LCD for under $200. Worth a try? If I decide to do it, I will post back here my findings and expenses.

TiVo Box Just $99 for Limited Time

If you were ever thinking about getting a TIVO unit (and I would HIGHLY suggest it), now is the time. You can get the 40 hour box Tivo Series 2 box for $99 suggested retail price. The best part is that this is without a mail in rebate. Instead it is an instant rebate. I just had to go through hoops to get my rebate and still have yet to get the money back, so this is definately the time to do it...

FightOnState.com: Scout - Big Sam

Sam Young, a 5 star OL from Florida, has narrowed his decision down to 6 schools.
  • USC
  • Stanford
  • Notre Dame
  • Penn State
  • Michigan
  • Miami

It would be nice to land this "out of stater". You never know what affect it would have on other recruits around his area if he would commit. Don't expect to hear any time soon though. Sam mentioned that he will not even be taking official visits until December.

FightOnState.com: McEowen Third Prospect to Pick State

Tom McEowen, a 4 star DT according to scout.com, has given a verbal agreement to PSU. This is a great pickup, especially this early in the recruiting phase. Tom comes in at 6-4, 270lbs with 4.9 speed. He was to visit PSU later this month followed by Florida, but decided to commit early. We are definitely on the rise. Good time to be a PSU fan...

The A. L. I. C. E. Artificial Intelligence Foundation

This is weird... You can chat w/ a computer algorithm. Try it. I asked some things like "What are you having for dinner" and it replied "It did not know". I said "why not", and it said, Because I am not programmed to know how to do that. Bored and have no friends, your prayers have been answered...

FightOnState.com: Scout.com Q&A: Rolling with Myron

Something in this article stuck out at me. Take a peak at this. This is a response from Myron Rolle about how he will pick the school he will attend:

"Rolle: There’s actually like five or six pages of stuff. We as a family will sit around the table and discuss it. Things like the head coach, strength and conditioning coaches and the program, the position coach, the coach that’s recruiting me, the amount of Academic All-Americans the school has had, how often are they on TV, what would the travel be like for my family, how is the training regimen, the nutrition program for players, the facilities, the dorms, and the social life on the campus. We then rank them from one to five. It’s kind of fun, the whole family gets involved. The school that I select will have everything that I need." - scout.com
Catch anything that just shouts PSU? Well I think these do:
"head coach" - come on - only the best
"coach that’s recruiting me" - PSU's best recruiter is on the case. Tom Bradley. The guy that landed us Justin King
"amount of Academic All-Americans the school has had" - PSU is one if not the best. more...
"how often are they on TV" - Every game this year on TV except one which is on ESPN 360 webcast. And that has been the story for many years.
"what would the travel be like for my family" - PSU is by far the closest (of the colleges he has narrowed his selection down) to his family.

Getting Ready for the Beach

Going to Outer Banks for the first time. Leaving in about two weeks so I decided to do a little looking around to see what I may find that is there and this is what I came upon.

Outer Banks Speedway

Maybe I should take my Nova w/ me and see if the local boys are any good. What really caught my eye is the prizes that the class winners receive. The TOP class winner gets a brand new rolling dragster. That is crazy. That is most likely over 15K and probably more like 20K+. The Modified winner receives a 24' enclosed trailer. The second place guy receives a Gold card (free racing the following year) Our track gives an aluminum jack? And not even a good one. A cheap a** one. WTF??? I need to move.

Points Standings

Thought I would post a place to let you know where to find the years points standings.

First of all, the track standing where I race. Scroll down to the Street class.

Beaver Springs Points

Next points are for the national Summit Super Series points. This is a relatively new (less than 5 years) points system where IHRA members pay $10/year for a special number to run on their car. Then after each race, the track operator submits the race results to IHRA. The results are calculated to create a score for each racer by their record, reaction time, and their "dial in". The points are then compared locally for your track, in the racers division and also nationally. Each breakdown of points is seperated by Box (electronics in car) and No-Box (foot brake) cars. Here is the link to the track points.

Zemaitis

Read this morning that Alan Zemaitis is up for Jim Thorpe award to make it back to back years of being nominated. This award is granted to the top Defensive Back on the year.

PSU Wrestling Past and Present

Just read two good articles on PSU wrestling. One about PSU's past and one about the future.

InterMat has ranked the Lions recruiting class for this year at #5. Iowa State is ranked at #1 and Iowa is the next closest Big Ten team to PSU at #10. Should be an exciting year. They picked up a nationally ranked 125 pounder which they needed with Smith graduating.

The other story is that Cummins finished 1st place in the first Real Pro Wrestling season.

One word to say on both news items. NICE!!!

PSU Hype

Getting closer. PSU made the list of 5 teams to watch this year on ESPN yesterday. NICE!!!

Also found out that McCoy (5 star RB recruit for 2006) said he would like to stay in state to go to college. But he did tell Joe that he would not play for a team that does not have a winning year this year.

Getting the college football itch...
