#18

Two in the same amount of days.

Today, Devon Smith committed to Penn State. Smith is a very speedy WR prospect from Maryland. Smith had other offers from Akron and Temple with North Carolina close to offering. He also has track scholarship offers from LSU, etc. Smith also won the MVP award at the Baltimore scout.com combine earlier this year. He did not play football his junior year and is still ranked as a 3 start player on scout.com. Many PSU fans wanted him due to his speed and his desire to be a nittany lion. It all came in full circle for Devon.

Carson: It IS Official

Southern star linebacker Glenn Carson has verbally committed

LATEST SPORTS NEWS: Southern's Glenn Carson commits to Penn State for football

In Their Words

This is a quote from an Illini fan posting on a scout.com message board. Nothing more needed to say, just read and then watch this video and this one. Great job Guido...

Our game-day atmosphere
After having been at the PSU game last night, I can honestly say that they have the best crowd/fans in the country. How loud that stadium got is indescribable; you just have to go to a big game there to figure it out.

It got me thinking about the atmosphere at an Illinois game. Quite frankly, after seeing how rabid their fans were and how much fun they were having, it made me ticked off about how much game days at Illinois ****. One big thing PSU utilizes is not only great music before the games to get the fans pumped up (don't get me started with the crap they play at MS; the person who put that playlist should be fired) but they also play great music during the game, whether it be Zombie Nation after a big play, a song where the whole crowd sings along, or a song right before a huge down on D.

I had goosebumps everytime PSU got a big play. The crowd was deafening, and it was such an enjoyable game (minus the outcome). We have a long way to go before we get even close. One thing I don't want in this thread is lame excuses (we don't have enough fans to make that much noise-see Oregon as to why that excuse *****, we haven't been good for that long, etc.) There are some changes that need to be made in order for Illinois to become a hard place for teams to get a win at.

LBU Continues?

The current rumor is that PSU picked up linebacker recruit, Glenn Carson, this weekend. Carson is ranked as a 4 star recruit and the #7 middle linebacker in the nation. Nothing official, but this is the word...

Joke of the Week (or is it) :)

After former Florida State head football coach Bobby Bowden dies and enters the Pearly Gates, God takes him on a tour. God shows Bobby a little two-bedroom house with a faded FSU banner hanging from the front porch.

God says, "This is your house, coach. Most people don't get a house up here.

Bobby looks at the house, then turns around and looks at the big house sitting on top of a big hill. It's a huge two-story mansion with white marble columns and little patios under all the windows. Penn State flags line both sides of the walkway, and a huge Penn State banner hangs between the marble columns.

"Thanks for the house, God. But, let me ask you a question. I get this little two bedroom house with a faded FSU banner and Paterno gets a mansion with new Nittany Lion banners and flags flying all over the place. Why is that?"

God looks at him seriously for a moment and says, "Paterno's not dead.
That's my house."

Another OT Offer

Penn State has apparently told Oday Aboushi of Brooklyn that if he visits, there is an offer for him. This is a little late of an offer after already getting a solid number of OT verbal commits so far this year. This guy appears he could be a stud though with his numbers and you can never have too many offensive lineman. He lists PSU as 1 of 3 that he will visit (along w/ Rutgers and UVA). He is a 4 star OT on Rivals.com and 3 star on Scout.com.

Hayes Out for Year

As expected, Jerome Hayes is done for the year. Here is what PSU had to say...

Hayes to Miss Rest of Season
Penn State redshirt junior defensive end Jerome Hayes will miss the remainder of the 2008 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Hayes will have surgery in the next 2 to 3 weeks and will face nine months of rehab. It is a tough blow for the junior after suffering the same injury in his right knee last season.

#17

PSU has moved from #19 to #17 with Saturday's large win over Oregon State.

What is crazy (if you look at the entire poll) is Notre Dame actually got votes. They needed to come back to a team that lost to Cal Poly the week before. A Cal Poly team that lost to Montana on Saturday. Connecticut got votes as well with just getting by a much improved but still Temple team. It just goes to prove, even the coaches don't know what they are talking about.

Injury Update

It is thought that Jerome Hayes has suffered his second ACL tear late in the game yesterday. As bad as that is, the worst part is that it was on a 2nd punt attempt and done by an illegal block. It really is a shame...

Not sure if everyone noticed, but DWill pulled up on his last pass route on the field holding his chest/ribs. He did not return. It is rumored that he has a slight rib problem, however it is not expected to be serious. That is full out rumor however as no confirmation has been noted.

Sort of Official

Maurice Evans, Abe Koroma, Andrew Quarless and A.J. Wallace were not at practice yesterday. They are the same names mentioned yesterday in the report of a "small amount" of marijuana in their apartment. No charges have occurred yet, however, I can't imagine they all will serve some sort of punnishment no matter what and possibly the dismissal of Quarless. He has been in WAY too many sticky situations the last year+.
